Loco Moco

I love everything that has to do with Hawaii. Heat, leis, spam, shave ice, Loco Moco. I don’t even remember the first time I had Loco Moco, oh wait, probably when my husband and I were just dating. He loves it!! And he has never even been to Hawaii 😉 Any chance I get, I try to cook the things he loves. My sisters and nephews came over last night and I still had no idea what I was going to make for dinner. That’s how I roll every night. It’s rare that I have meals planned out….EVER!! But we like it that way and it adds variety to our meals.

So last night I made Loco Moco. It’s easy and yummy 🙂

Ingredients:
  Hamburger patties:
  1 1/2 tbs vegetable oil
1 lb ground beef or turkey (I like to use turkey…just healthier and cheaper)
  Salt and pepper to taste
    Rice:
    2 cups rice
    4 cups water
    1 tsp salt
    1 tbs butter or margarine
      Gravy:
      2 cups water
      1 1/2 – 2 tbs soy sauce
      3 tbs flour
        Eggs:
        4 large eggs

Directions:
Heat pan with oil until hot. Form meat into patties, however many you want ((I formed mine into small patties just cause)). Place on pan and cook each side about 4-5 minutes, until juices run clear. Remove from pan and set aside. Meanwhile start the rice. Add rice, water, salt and butter to a pot and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. When that is done everything else should be done. In the pan that the meat was cooked in add the water and soy sauce ((some people like to add salt or a dash of Worcestershire sauce, whatever excited your taste-buds)). Let that simmer and reduce for a few minutes. In a separate bowl incorporate the flour with a little bit of water then slowly add that to the gravy pan. Simmer a few more minutes until the gravy is the consistency you like. Now for the eggs, cook them however you like. We like them over easy but i think traditionally Loco Moco is served with a sunny side up egg. After everything is cooked all that is left to do is assemble your plate then enjoy your Hawaiian meal.
