My Glory Was I Had Such Friends ~ Amy Silverstein

It is no surprise that I get a lot of my book recommendations from the ladies over at the All The Books Podcast. They talked about this book and that it made them both cry buckets. I haven’t cried reading a book in a long time so I thought that I would give it a try. I have to admit that I did not cry but it did take me a while to get through it.

This memoir is about the trials of a heart retransplant and the friends that were by Amy Silverstein’s bedside. She has beat the odds and has lived with a transplanted heart for 25 years. Now she is on the road to heart failure and finding another heart. Amy is surrounded by a loyal husband and a group of great friends that fly all over the country to be by hear side in her time of need.

This was such a great book about the awesomeness of friendship and it taught me a lot about heart transplants, heart failure and a lot of medical terms in regards to the heart. But with every page I was reminded of my friend. One of my friends is currently under medical supervision with a failing heart. He was hospitalized earlier this year when his heart was only working at 16%. I told him about this book and he told me to think positive for him. I do and I really feel he will get better. He has a two year old son with banked cord blood. What a time to be alive with all these advances in the medical science world. I have faith that he will be just fine.

Next book … Big Little Lies ~ Liane Moriarty
