The story follows Wade Watts in a dystopian 2044. Everybody is plugged into the internet where they live, eat, play, work and/or got to school. Wade goes to school in the virtual reality but is also on the search for an Easter egg that will lead him to an inheritance.
On this quest to find the Easter egg he joined by other “gunters” (a nick name for egg hunters). They need to find three keys and complete games and other puzzles to move on. A large corporation is also on the hunt for the egg because they want to make profit from the relatively free virtual reality platform. This corporation does not let anyone stand in their way of finding and securing the egg.
The friends that Wade makes in the game are no doubt his for life.
My husband told me that he wanted to read Ready Player One in anticipation to the upcoming movie. I had this book on my TBR for a bit so I downloaded it for myself and my husband. Well, he read the book and I got the audio book from the library. That was so fun because Wil Wheaton reads the book. I totally geeked out!! I cannot wait for the movie to come out next year. We live in a time where the digital effects should look amazing on the big screen, not to mention that a huge chunk of the U.S. population is playing video games and has internet access. This book, and now movie, will relate to many many people.
It is safe to say that I loved this book and I recommend it to anyone that is into science fiction. It also relates to the younger generations because of its content. So good! My husband didn’t know if I would like this book but I sure did. If any of you read it let me know how you liked it, or disliked it!
Next book … One Dark Throne ~ Kendare Blake
